GOOD NEWS Have you ever had someone give you good news and you did not hear it or catch its significance? We are so used to things being a certain way that we can easily ignore something important that is right in front of us especially if we have to respond proactively. More than one person has said to me, “I would give anything to be rid of this pain!” and then turn away after receiving the good news. Most people are more comfortable with old problems rather than with new solutions. Hopefully this is not true of the reader for I have good news for you! If you are ill, in pain or have a degenerative disease, there is hope for relief or improvement with very little effort on your part. There are no medicines or treatments involved. There is no cost, except a donation if you choose; but of course, you do have to do something, and that is to allow yourself to be gently and lovingly touched by another human being. Yes, there are growing numbers of us who practice touch healing and are willing to profoundly touch you and even teach you and your loved ones how to do it for yourselves. Man has known for centuries about the value of touch in the healing process. In fact it is more than knowledge; it is instinctive to touch oneself or another to sooth and heal injuries, and emotional trauma. Think about the last time you received an unexpected blow to the body or cut in the skin. Most likely you immediately touched the injured area. You would do the same to your child. Why not decide in advance to regularly and systematically touch and be touched therapeutically? Why not act according to our natural abilities? A more important
question is one that Jesus asked centuries ago: Do you want to be healed?
Healing is really a process and not an event. It begins when you are ready for it to begin. Today is the day. Now is the time. God has revealed a way for us to be healed and it is up to us to be involved in it and tell others. This is how good news is spread! Jesus spread the good news in this way. Possibly touch healing originated with Jesus. We know from the New Testament that Jesus spent much time healing others and taught his disciples how to heal. He instructed them to heal others while they were spreading the Word. The Gospel of Mathew states: “He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” There are many examples of these healings in the scriptures. The Apostle Peter also knew how to heal, presumably through his work with Jesus. In my view, one of the most empowering stories in the New Testament is where Peter, an ordinary man, encountered a beggar asking for money. Peter said to him, “I have no money, but what Jesus gave to me, I give to you.” He touched the man and said, “Get up and walk!” Jesus, of course, did a similar thing when He touched a lame man and commanded, “Take up your pallet and walk!” There it is -- the challenge that rings down through the centuries: “Get up and go; you are empowered!” I believe that it is time for us to take up the challenge and return to the practice of touch healing that played such a significant role in the early Christian church. To do so is to do what Peter did and emulate Jesus. Finally, a method is necessary to carry out a desire to share touch healing. There are several relatively simple, yet powerful, techniques that can be used to address all types of health concerns. The combination of correct points and light touch seems to enhance the body's natural healing ability. Healing takes place, as the body’s own inherent healing ability is subtly motivated. In time, many permanent ailments begin to correct themselves. Touch healing is found to be effective with pain, illness and stress-related conditions. It does not purport to take the place of standard medical treatment. So how does it work?
Well, if you ask any of the practitioners they will tell you, "We
don't know. The body begins to heal itself as a result of touch." Certainly,
there are a lot of theories about how light touch facilitates healing.
You can ask a scientist, a medical doctor, a Christian, or a child, and
they will each give you a different idea.
